A Brief History: Cape May Lighthouse is located at 215 Light House Avenue Cape May, New Jersey. It was built in 1859 making it one of the oldest lighthouses in the United States. It was the third of three lighthouses built while under the supervision of U.S Army engineer William F Reynolds. The other two are presently under water due to erosion.

Haunted History: As you walk up the 199 steps of this historic lighthouse, many have experienced unexplained occurrences which many feel are of a paranormal nature. Some of the spirits that have been seen are a ghostly woman in a flowing white gown. The spirit is carrying a lantern while holding a child. She is known to stay on the first landing. The second spirit was killed more recently, in 1995 after he squeezed through a railing and plunged to his death. Ghost sightings are a common occurrence throughout the historic area of Cape May. Some of those spirits have been identified while others like the ghostly woman in a flowing white gown with her child and lantern are presently unknown.
