Long Island Paranormal Investigators: Investigation July
2009

Rolling Hills Asylum in Bethany, NY.
Prolog: Long Island Paranormal
Investigators returned to Rolling Hills for our third "We're Alone!" investigation.
Regrettably this may be our last investigation at Rolling Hills as the
facility is in the process of being sold and it is unclear if the new owners
will allow paranormal investigations. But we are grateful for the
opportunities to investigate this asylum and will miss the location very
much if it because inaccessible.
Please note: As this is our third
investigation at this location not all rooms and location are represented on
this page. See our August 2007 and
July 2008
investigations for additional photos and descriptions of our paranormal
investigations at Rolling Hills.
Paranormal history: Rolling Hills Asylum is very well known for
shadows and
EVPs as well as other unexplained phenomena
in a number of locations. One of our strongest (and most chilling!) EVP was
recorded during our first investigation of this
facility.
The Equipment Used: LIPI performed a
lights
out investigation using digital
video recorders,
digital and
analog audio recorders,
IR and
thermal thermometers,
IR vision
systems, EMF and other electronic sensors.
The Investigation Team: Seven
members and guests of Long Island Paranormal Investigators
took part in this investigation. The investigation was lead by LIPI lead
investigators Michael Cardinuto and Jaiem Fleischmann. Additional team members were investigators
Michael Bainbridge, Peter Ferraro, Carolyn Braband, Christina Frank and guest
Michael Bloom. Rolling Hills current owner Lori Carlson was on site during
the investigation but did not participate this time.
Investigation background: Due to the
distant nature of Rolling Hills Asylum from our home base in Ronkonkoma, NY
it was decided to take our usual 3-day weekend to both maximize our investigation
time as well as be in the best physical and mental condition for paranormal
investigation.

Dawn over a field along the New York State
Thruway heading up to the Rolling Hills Asylum.

Long Island Paranormal Investigators stop for a
break on the way to the Rolling Hills Asylum.
Equipment Setup: We placed one of our
DVR cameras in the first and second floor
hallways of the East Wing along with our Class
2M laser, and a digital video camera on
a tripod in the recreation room. Our
digital thermometer was placed at the far end of the second floor of the
East Wing by the atrium doors while the temperature data logger
was placed on top of the organ in the third floor (West wing) organ room.

vehicles for the night's investigation.

Hills for the night's investigation.

Tech Manager Mike Bainbridge sets up the DVR system
in the HQ room.

Note the red laser lines on LIPI4 covering the entire second floor of the East
Wing for shadow activity.
Digital audio records
we left running all night in the smoking room and HQ as well as at least one
being carried by each LIPI investigation teams. Our
wireless motion sensor was placed in
the second floor solarium room and the doors where closed. The
class 2M laser was placed on a tripod in the
second floor of the East wing facing down the hallway to cover all the room
doors.
Individually, LIPI investigators used
digital audio records,
IR thermometers,
ambient temperature thermometers,
digital photo cameras,
35mm cameras, and a variety of
EMF meters.
The Investigation: Long Island Paranormal Investigators performed
an 8 hour investigation of the asylum. Our group was divided into
2 teams
that took turns rotating throughout the building each hour. Teams remained in contact via
Motorola-class walkie-talkie radios.

Note the bats and skull on the wall are painted from a prior 'Haunted House'
party held years ago at Rolling Hills.

Investigator Mike Bainbridge uses Dowsing Rods
at the entrance to the Christmas Room.

This is the walk way outside the Christmas
Room that during the 2008 investigation Lead Investigator Jaiem Fleischmann
believes he photographed a shadow being. LIPI carefully investigated this
hallway to confirm there are no moldings, doorways or other protrusions that
could accidentally be mistaken for a shadow in a photograph.

Long Island Paranormal Investigators takes
quick break to re-hydrate (it's always hot at Rolling Hills!) and record
experiences and equipment readings.

Long Island Paranormal Investigators pack up
equipment the morning after the investigation.
Findings: This investigation revealed the following evidence and
experiences:

LIPI investigators begin the task of
reviewing the evidence collected back at the hotel after the investigation.
Audio and Video Evidence: No possible paranormal activity was
recorded.
Photograph Evidence: No possible paranormal activity was recorded.
EMF and Thermal Evidence: No unusual EMF or temperature variations were
detected during our investigation. No potential paranormal activity was noticed
on the K2 meter either.

Empathic Reports |
- From empathic specialist Peter Ferraro:
-
While on the second floor I sensed a possible presence.
Investigators Mike Bainbridge, Investigator-in-training Christina Frank
and LIPI guest Michael Bloom were present.. I felt an unknown energy at my back if
someone was trying to get my attention. I tried to make contact but
it seemed that the energy became a little stronger. At the same time
investigator Mike Bainbridge was at a different part of the floor
where he reported hearing something or felt someone breathe down his neck.
-
While doing a walk through with Rolling
Hills owner Lori Carlson on the second floor of the East Wing I felt a
heaviness in my body and chest. Lori asked me if I felt It. Lori
also a sensitive told me she gets the same vibe but gets the
sensation in her legs. I also feel this to be a validation of a
possible spirit energy.
-
In the Christmas room I sensed an energy of a possible presence.
Before asking EVP questions and checking equipment to gain some physical
evidence I heard something that sounded like conversation. outside
in the hallway . I am hoping to get a possible EVP to back up with
physical evidence. I feel this was a very active night and we all
had a lot of experiences. I feel the spiritual energy was very
high that night and I would like it if someone came out and said
"Hello".
|
Conclusion: In spite of several personal
experiences Long Island Paranormal
Investigators was unable to confirm (or debunk) the presence of paranormal
activity at the Rolling Hills Asylum during this investigation.
