Remington Arms Factory
A Brief History: Located at 812 Barnum Avenue in Bridgeport Connecticut, The Remington Arms Factory was originally built 1867 and was owned and operated by Union Metallic Cartridge Company, to great success. In 1912 the company was purchased by Remington Arms, and in 1915 the factory expanded to a 73-acre manufacturing complex. At the turn of the 20th century, Remington arms were amongst the biggest munitions factories in the world. The company employed nearly 17,000 workers and served as a huge boon to the city of Bridgeport.
During the lifespan of the factory, there were many deaths on site. On separate occasions, two men had fallen into pots of molten metal. In 1942, there was a deadly explosion on the production floor that caused the death of seven workers and injured as many as eighty more. Some people claim the explosion was wartime sabotage, however there is no concrete evidence to support that.
In 1970, Remington would move the most of its production to a new factory located in Arkansas. They eventually closed the factory in Bridgeport in 1988. Several other companies, such as General Electric, attempted to utilize the facility but ultimately it was left abandoned. A once shining example of the industrial era, now only dilapidated buildings surrounded by barbed wire fencing remains. Currently the city would like to demolish the facility but there are rumors of tons of explosive power buried on the grounds, which could cause a massive explosion if the ground is interrupted.
Haunted History: Many shadow figures are seen behind the barbed wire fencing, on occasion prompting police officers to investigate the grounds. There have also reports of disembodied voices and screams as well as spirit “orbs” and mists. People often claim to have feelings of dread and feel unexplained cold spots. There are also claims that the building is cursed, due to the bloody history and many deaths as a result of the munitions that were manufactured at this factory.
