Captain Mey's Inn

A Brief History: Located at 202 Ocean Street in Cape May, New Jersey, Captain Mey’s Inn was built c. 1890 for homeopathic physician, and Cape May native, Dr. Walter H. Phillips. Presently it is used as a B&B (that doesn’t serve breakfast) and is named after Captain Cornelius J. Mey who was sent to explore the coast by the Dutch West India Company in 1621. While it is named after Captain Mey, he never lived here as it was built well after his time.

Haunted History: There have been claims of hearing knocks on the door while in Captain Mey’s Room, but when you go to open the door no one is there.  Guests have also claimed to have heard disembodied voices coming from Willem the Silent Poet’s Room, when no one is in there.  Many guests have claimed to have feelings of being watched when alone in the rooms.
