Gingerbread Castle

A Brief History: The Gingerbread Castle is located at 43 Gingerbread Castle Road Hamburg, New Jersey. Gingerbread Castle is a small children’s fairytale theme park. It was designed By Joseph Urban as a tie-in to the nearby Wheatsworth Factory at the time. Built in 1930, the castle is built from concrete and stands three stories tall. The park closed in the late 1970’s but the characters that decorated it still remain. It was not maintained and became weathered over many years.  Eventually the Castle was bought by Frank and Lou Hinger in 2003. Later it was bought by real estate developers Pat Barton and Gene Muluhill in 2008. The castle was placed on ebay for the price of $649,000 but did not sell.  The property is located near Jospeh Sharp’s historic Iron Mill and at one point contained a flourmill in 1808.

Haunted History: Visitors claim to get an eerie feeling while visiting the castle.  While standing outside of the fence people get a strange feeling of something in the castle looking back at you.  There have also been claims of hearing children’s voices coming from inside the castle.
