Jungle Habitat

A Brief History: Jungle Habitat was a Safari Theme Park located off of Airport Road in West Milford New Jersey. It was a drive through attraction where people could drive their own cars down the paths and see wild animals and then walk around the inner part of the park containing concession stands and other attractions. The park was owned by Warner Bros. and opened in July of 1972 to a large crowd with cars backed up for miles to gain access. Jungle Habitat began to have problems when its visitors would suffer animal attacks. One report was of an elephant picking someone up from over a fence and throwing them against it. In 1972 a tourist was mauled by two lions within the park. Animals were said to have escaped the park and the local news would warn people to stay indoors upon the sightings. The theme park closed its gates in October of 1976. The animals that were still alive were rumored to have been left behind but records show that they were sent to other parks across the country. The bodies of the animals that had unfortunately died around that time were left until the winter was over which was a problem with state law showing that animals must be buried within 48 hours of death. Currently the park is abandoned and is full of overgrown paths and some abandoned structures.

Haunted History: People claim to see hybrid creatures as well as Hell Hounds roaming the park and surrounding land. Many have claimed to hear unworldly sounds in the abandoned park and have attributed them to the Hell Hounds. Many people still claim to see sightings of exotic animals including kangaroos, baboons, monkeys, Emus, Cassowaries and many others.
