Gettysburg Battlefield - 64th NY Infantry

A Brief History: The 64th New York Infantry Monument is located on Brooke Avenue in the Rose Woods. The 64th New York Infantry was commanded by Colonel David G. Bingham during the Battle of Gettysburg. Colonel Bingham was wounded during the battle on July 2nd, 1863; therefore, Major Leman W. Bradley was forced to take command of the regiment. There is also a monument to Captain Henry Fuller who led Company F of the 64th New York Infantry, near Rose Run about 200 yards east of the monument. The 64th New York Infantry was created in Elmira, New York in September 1861 during the Civil War. Led by Colonel Thomas J. Parker, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel C. Bingham and Major Enos. C. Brooks the company was initially assigned to bolster the defenses of Washington D.C. Between 1862-1865 They would participate in many battles of the Civil War including the Battles of Fair Oaks, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and many more. The 64th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment lost 13 officers and 160 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded and 5 officers and 114 enlisted men to disease during the Civil War.

Haunted History: There are reports of strange apparitions and orbs that float around the monument. The biggest claim is the stench of dead bodies that appears very briefly but very strongly and then disappears almost as quickly as it came.
