Gettysburg Battlefield - Barlow Knoll

A Brief History: Barlow's Knoll or as it was originally called Blocher's Knoll is located on Howard Avenue, is a more than often forgotten place even though it played a crucial point in the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg. The pivotal battle took place on July 1, 1863, where Brig. Gen. Francis C. Barlow tried to push North of Rock Creek. Barlow only had two brigades and made the choice to move across the land onto the small hill that is now Barlow's Knoll. The Second Division of the Confederate Army lead by Jubal Early hit and flanked the Union Army. The Union XI Corps was then pushed back toward Cemetery Hill with the rest of the Union. This was due to poor planning by Francis Barlow who was severely injured and taken off the battlefield. Now a part of the National Park Services of Gettysburg, PA you can visit the sight and see the monuments to the ill-fated battle.
