Gettysburg Battlefield - Farnsworth Hill

A Brief History: Farnsworth Hill, also known as Bushman Hill, is located in the south section of the Gettysburg Battlefield not far from Big Round Top, on South Confederate Avenue. It was the staging area for the Army of the Potomac’s Battery E, Fourth US Artillery under commanding officer Lieutenant Samuel S. Elder. The brigade engaged with Brigadier General Elon J. Farnsworth’s Cavalry in the battle that became known as Farnsworth’s Charge that ended with the death of Farnsworth alongside many of his men at the hands of the Union Army. The Fourth Artillery only lost one man during the battle. Today this is a location available to visit as part of the park tour, but a lesser known one. The monuments are a bit off the beaten path and have begun to show some wear and tear. However, this still remains a significant location during one of Gettysburg’s most infamous battles
Â
Haunted History: There were mass casualties in and around this area. As with most locations on the battlefield, there are reports of unexplained sounds of gunfire, cannon fire, and explosions. When you are standing on top of the hill people claim to have gotten a sense of feeling alone. Â
