Lightner Farmhouse

A Brief History: The Lightner Farmhouse, located at 2350 Baltimore Pike in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was built in 1862 by Isaac Lightner, an Adams County Sheriff and farmer. The house and grounds were an important location during the Battle of Gettysburg. The house itself and the entire property were used as a field hospital for wounded soldiers. The kitchen was used to bake bread for Union soldiers. In fact, the original beehive oven that was built by Sheriff Lightner still stands outside the kitchen to this day. There are many other Civil War era artifacts still found in the house and blood stains still remain on the parlor floor. The historic farmhouse has been well preserved throughout the years and today serves as a popular bed and breakfast. However, perhaps it’s not just the living that are staying here these days.

Haunted History: Given the history and locale of The Lightner Farmhouse, it should come as no surprise that there have been reports of haunted activity there throughout the years. Undoubtedly, many soldiers suffered and died at this location and some of their spirits may still remain. There have been reports of Civil War Era soldiers still walking the grounds. The parlor room (where the floor remains blood stained) is also said to be a hot spot of paranormal activity with visitors reporting feeling heavy and cold. There are also many artifacts housed here that may carry the energy of that violent battle waged here all those years ago.
