Glen Cove Mansion

A Brief History: In the beautiful and luxurious area of the Gold Coast of Long Island at 200 Dosoris Lane in Glen Cove, New York sits the magnificent Glen Cove Mansion. Designed and built in 1910 by architect Charles Adams Platt, it was the home to John Teele and Ruth Baker Pratt. John Teele was an attorney and executive with John D. Rockefeller’s oil company, and his wife Ruth was a politician and the first female representative to be elected from New York. Soon after it became one of the first conference hotels in the United States. Sitting on 55 Acres, this estate was known simply as “The Manor” and was also well known for being the setting for the famous book by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby. Many Hollywood movies had segments that were filmed on the premises as well such as “Sabrina” starring Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn, & Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest” starring Carey Grant. Today it is still used as an elegant hotel, and for booking weddings as well.

Haunted History: According to personal reports from many staff members and even some guests, they have reported seeing a few apparitions: One elderly female apparition in the former servants wing, which is now the Pub 1910 Restaurant and Lounge at the hotel & conference center, and on the second floor Magnolia Room which was originally the bedroom of Ruth Baker Pratt. It is said that it’s very possible that the elderly female is in fact Ruth Pratt, since she passed away in the building in 1965 at 87 years old. There have also been reports of a man in a brown suit being seen walking through the lobby and many different locations of the building, then suddenly disappearing.  Alongside these claims, there have also been reports of the Jukebox turning on and off by itself at random, photographs of orbs, inexplicable noises, lights turning off and on by themselves, and doors closing on their own.
