EDI+ Meter

EDI+ Meter

EDI+ stands for Environmental Detection Instrument. The + means that it has a data logger built which can record all of your readings and graph it.

The EDI Meter can detect the following conditions listed below:

Temperature – Fahrenheit or Decreases in Environmental Conditions

Temperature – Celsius or Increases in Environmental Conditions

Pressure – Increases and Decreases

Humidity – Increases and Decreases

EMF – Electro Magnetic Fields (Milligauss)

Vibration – Geophone

HOW TO SET UP THE EDI: Turn on the meter by pressing the PWR button. The screen will light up and is automatically set to temperature in Fahrenheit. NOTE: The meter at this time is also detecting everything else. To change the display hit the DISP button, this will change what is being viewed, and light up the light of what will be displayed. The order when hitting the display button is as follows: Red Light: TEMP + =Temperature in Celsius, 5-Blue Lights: MILLIGAUSS=EMF, Yellow Light: PRS=Pressure, Green Light: HUM=Humidity, Blue Light: TEMP- =Temperature in Fahrenheit. NOTE: the VIBRATION=Geophone and the Speaker for MILLIGAUSS=EMF will always be turned on unless you turn those settings off. To turn those 2 settings off located on the middle of the meter under the display where it says MARK. To turn off the VIBRATION press the VIBE button. If you want to turn the VIBRATION back on press the VIBE button again. To turn off the speaker for MILLIGAUSS press the SPKR button. If you want to turn the speaker for MILLIGAUSS back on press the SPKR button again. To turn off the EDI meter hold the PWR button for 5 seconds and the meter will shut off.

RECORDING DATA ON THE EDI: When using the record mode on the meter place an SC Card in the slot located on the top of the meter, then press the REC button in the middle of the meter. There will be a red blinking light on the top left corner where it says REC. The meter will start to log all of the data onto the SD Card that can be downloaded later onto your computer after the meter is stopped. The graphs that it can produce are through either the EDI+ software, which is a free download, or Microsoft Excel. The Graphs are listed below.

Temperature – Fahrenheit

FACT: The temperature sensor on the EDI+ Meter detects ambient air temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius.

THEORY: In theory when a spirit/ghost starts to manifest, it will draw in heat energy around the area, causing either a cold spot or a hot spot. A cold spot would form because the heat energy is being sucked out of the air, causing the air around the entity to be cold. A hot spot would form because the heat energy is being sucked out of the air and condensed to a specific area causing a hot spot.

RANGE: The range from the meter to the active field is 0 to 1 foot.

READINGS: A normal reading is usually a 5-degree ± from your base reading. Typically a paranormal reading has a minimum of a 10-degree ± from your base reading. If you get a drop in temperature, the drop is called a cold spot. You may also get an increase in temperature, which would then be called a hot spot. While the meter is on regardless of what the digital readout is set to if the Blue TEMP light, lights up that means that there is a drop in temperature, or if the Red TEMP light, lights up that means that there is an increase in temperature. NOTE: The meter will light up the blue or red lights if there is a slight change in temperature of ± 0.1oF that is less than 0.5 seconds.

Pressure

THEORY: In theory when a spirit/ghost starts to manifest it may cause an increase/decrease in barometric pressure.

RANGE: The range of readings on this meter is from 300hPa to 1000hPa.

READINGS: The unit of measurement on the EDI for pressure is hectopascal (hPa). If there is an increase/decrease of 10hPa, then it could be considered paranormal activity. If pressure starts to decrease from 1013hPa to 990hPa, this means that there is a severe storm coming your way, or is present. If pressure decreases to 960hPa or below, then that means there is a hurricane present. If the pressure starts to increase during an investigation to 1000hPa or above, then this could mean that the low-pressure storm system is moving away from you. NOTE: The readings listed for weather are based on coastal regions, not inland. While the meter is on regardless of what the digital readout is set to if the Blue TEMP Light, and the Yellow PRS Light lights up that means that there is a drop in pressure, or if the RED TEMP light, and the Yellow PRS Light lights up that means that there is an increase in pressure. NOTE: The meter will light up the blue or red lights if there is a slight change in pressure of ± 0.15hPa that is less than 0.5 seconds.

Humidity

FACT: Relative Humidity is a percentage of water vapor in the air based upon the temperature.

NOTE: When there is a high level of humidity present, this will affect any photographic and video evidence you might have. High humidity can cause false positives of mists, fog, and/or water vapor or moisture orbs.

RANGE: The range from meter to the active field is 0 – 1 foot. The range of readings on the meter is 20% to 80% relative humidity.

READINGS: While the meter is on regardless of what the digital readout is set to if the Blue TEMP Light, and the Green HUM Light lights up that means that there is a drop in humidity, or if the RED TEMP light, and the Green HUM Light lights up that means that there is an increase in humidity. NOTE: The meter will light up the blue or red lights if there is a slight change in pressure of ± 3%RH that is less than 0.5 seconds.

EMF – Electro Magnetic Fields (Milligauss)

FACT: EMF meters detect electromagnetic fields.

THEORY:

  • Theory #1: When a spirit/ghost manifests, it gives off an Electromagnetic field, which may be picked up by an EMF meter.

  • Theory #2: When a spirit/ghost manifests, it needs energy to do so. In an area where there is a high EMF field, the spirit/ghost may draw in that high EMF and manifest.

  • Theory # 3: In theory, a spirit can communicate with you through this meter by lighting up the LED lights. There would be 2 dashes of light if the answer is yes, and 1 dash of light if the answer is no. (This is the Chris Fleming Theory)

RANGE: The range of EMF through the LED lights is 1mg to 10+mg, and the range of EMF through the digital screen is 0mg to 12mg. The range from the meter to the active field is 0 to 1 foot.

READINGS: The unit of measurement on all EMF meters is milligauss (mg). Normal activity through this meter is 0mg to 2.5mg. Paranormal activity occurs between 3mg to 8mg. The speaker will sound at 3mg and above, and the lights will start to light up at 1mg. Any readings above 10mg is probably non paranormal. There are many things that can throw off EMF readings, such as speakers, electrical wires, television sets, computers, appliances, electrical outlets, romex cable, power lines etc., so be aware of your surroundings. The readings for theory # 3 are that the LED lights will blink twice for yes, and once for no.

Vibration – Geophone

FACT: A geophone is a device that will detect seismic activity, and vibrations through soil, rocks, and vibrations caused by movement on a surface. This device will also detect vibrations caused by sound waves.

THEORY: In theory, after a spirit/ghost has manifested and is moving around, it may create a vibration on the ground that will be detected by the geophone.

RANGE: The range from meter to the active field is 0 – 1 foot.

READINGS: If the meter does not pick up any activity, note that there was no paranormal activity through the geophone in the field report. If the meter lights up then that means that there is some type of activity. The lights will start to light up when the meter starts to detect surface movement. Any movement with a ± 2g range will start to set the meter off. The more lights that light up mean that the surface movement is stronger and closer to the device.
