Arnold Manor

A Brief History: The Arnold Manor, located at 1001 Montauk Highway in West Islip, New York, is one of the last remaining Great Gatsby Era mansions on Long Island. The property was first developed as a summer home in 1873 for Richard Arnold, an heir to one of the earliest department stores on New York City’s “Ladies Mile.” The Arnold Manor as we know it was built in 1906 by his daughter in law Annie Cameron Arnold. After Years of neglect the mansion fell into decay, and was later restored in the 1990s for $600,000 as an agreement was struck with the town of Islip for a development company to turn the property into a townhouse complex in exchange for covering the cost of the restorations to the mansion. Today the Arnold Manor has been renovated to accommodate multiple apartments and the home’s defining original features such as its wood burning fireplaces, a covered carriage entryway, grand staircase, and fluted columns have been restored to their former glory.

Haunted History: There have been claims of seeing a woman in a Victorian era dress walk down the staircase and just disappear. There have also been claims of different objects moving around.
