Laurel Ridge Setauket Woods

A Brief History: Located at 130A North Belle Mead Road in Setauket New York. In the 1980’s a chunk of land was deeded to the town of Brookhaven by a developer that built at another location. This land would later become Laurel Ridge Setauket Woods. The name Laurel Ridge comes from the many Mountain Laurel bushes. For several years, town councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld advocated the long term preservation of the largest parcel of land in Brookhaven town. The 252 acres of land recharges an estimated 143 million gallons of clean drinking water. It is home to a variety of woodpeckers, songbirds, game birds, small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Within the land are 13 miles of trails for walking, running and biking. The trails are maintained by C.L.I.M.B. (Concerned Long Island Mountain Bikers). The preserve is open year round for the public to enjoy.

Haunted History: Visitors have claimed to have felt a presence in the woods. People have also claimed to have seen shadow people lurking in these woods. LIPI has conducted some investigations here and were able to record EVPs and many investigators have reported seeing different color balls of lights.
