Patriot Rock

A Brief History: Patriot’s Rock is located at 108 Main Street Setauket New York. About 10,000 years ago the rock was moved by a glacier to an area in Setauket that would be its final resting place. This rock would eventually be named Patriot’s Rock. The rock got its name from the famous Battle of Setauket. During the battle the Patriots used the rock as a base for a cannon. They fired the cannon at the Presbyterian Church which was holding the Tories. The fight only lasted several hours. The Battle of Setauket ended when General Parsons received a message that more Tories were on their way. A few of the Patriots were Zachariah Greene, Caleb Brewster, General Parsons and Jonathan Dickerson. The rock is still located in it’s original location, and not far from the Setauket Village Green which can be visited year round. Haunted History: It is said that if you are passing by the area, you may catch a glimpse of a few men in Revolutionary War style clothing standing by the rock and then disappear. People have also claimed to have heard cannon fire and gun fire from that area.
